While exploring the streets of Bikaner,India I ended up in an area dominated by the Maheshwari business community. I found this interesting door in the Haveli of Bikaner.
It is one of the biggest Havelis in the vicinity. The door leads to the storage are of the building. That’s the reason why metal mesh has been used in upper half of the door – to allow air to pass through. The Bikaner Haveli has surely seen better days as it is not in use, anymore.

So intricate. How do they manage making such delicate woodwork? It’s amazing

Rajasthani carpenters were famous for their wood working skills. Though the wood used in this region was all hard wood not very suitable for carving. Ever been to Bikaner?

I have heard of thier woodcarving skills. Because their fame lives on even now, when most people don’t go for such intricate work anymore. No, I’ve never had the pleasure of being to Bikaner.

Interesting mix with the metal mesh and the wood. I like the decorative elements in the top part of the frame too. Nice find 🙂

Thank You. Yes, it is interesting. The wood used here is not soft wood which is norm for the carvings. 🙂

Beautiful Door. Heard there are several hundreds of these incredible havelis in the lanes of Bikaner. Is that true? Have you seen most of them?

That’s true…there are many….many Haveli’s in Bikaner. While some have gained prominence or turned into a hotel, others are still a dwelling units. Will make a detailed post on it soon. Thanks for the visit and sharing your views. 🙂
